School Checker Support
Terms of Use
School Checker is a program that connects
to the internet, and downloads a live feed of school closings and delays from
a news website. This program then displays the information to you in a visual
form. It also gives you a audio notification by playing a song for sixty seconds
(The user can change this option later, click here for more
information).
School Checker only supports schools who are covered by TheBostonChannel.com.
Support for other schools in different states will be included soon; however,
it is difficult to make the program analyze two different formats.

Checker version 1.0 build 5 BETA (Upgrade
Only EXE - You already have Schools.txt File || Alert
Notification WMA File - Music notification file, download if you want it)
- Updated the program
to allow for multiple user customization, including the songs, delays and waits,
and the types of notifications the user wishes to receive.
- Fixed some minor
bugs in the program interface and checking options.
School
Checker version 1.0 build 3 BETA
- Initial release
of program, program is still in beta testing stages.
- Allows some customization
to which schools are checked; however, more is to come in later releases.
When first opening the program, two
main schools are added to the list. These two schools are Pentucket Regional
and Haverhill Public. Notice how both schools have their formal names displayed.
When adding a school to check, you must use the name that the news companies
have, and exactly as they have it. This means CaSe matters. For Example, Pentucket
Regional is not the same as Pentucket ReGioNaL. (As there are different letter
cases). If you cannot find out your exact school name, please submit for help
on the Support Forum and we can figure it out for you.
To add a new school to the list to check, type it in the specified box than
hit add school. To remove a school, highlight it than hit remove. You may have
as many schools as you wish and we will be adding support for massive queuing
soon!
In order for the program to alert you all the time, you must let it run as a
"Background Process" This means that the program is still open, but
not actively shown on your task bar. Instead, the program resides in the "System
Tray" which is usually located in the lower right hand corner of your task
bar. The system tray also includes the Clock and sometimes the Date.
After looking at a school, you should hit "Send to Tray" or hit the X button and hit "No" at the prompt box. If you really want to exit the program, you would have to hit the X at the prompt box or File --> Exit, than click yes at the following message box.
To check the status of a school, after the program has updated (that means it has said "[08:48:37 PM] Checking the status of your Schools.") than you may double click on the school of your choice in the list box to the right. Again, once a update has been received the program will make the proper changes to the data. Updates occur every 60 seconds at the moment; however, customization will be setup soon for more often updates. Also, you will be alerted by a song and by a popup window (for Windows XP and 2000 Machines only) if there is a delay, early release, or cancellation. The first check of the schools will occur however many seconds the user defines after the initial start of the program.
This program feeds off a news web site, so at times the data may be slightly inaccurate so do not rely solely on the program for your school status information.
You may now change which songs you want
the program to use, how long you want the song to play for, and what types of
alerts you want. You may also change how often the program checks for updates
from the internet. Remember, the faster you make it check the status of schools,
the more bandwidth it's going to use. A good value is 60 seconds; however, if
you want a faster checking just change the value!
